Last night, a bunch of our friends and favorite local bands (The Nuclears, Deathrow Tull, Photon Dynamo, etc), took part in an incredible fundraising event at everyone’s favorite Bushwick coffee house, Little Skips. The goal of the night was to help raise enough money via raffles, silent auctions (a photo session with me was auctioned off!), donations, and sales of t-shirts, beer, baked goods, and margaritas, to send our friends Maggie & Brian Muldoon to Liberia this summer.
Why Liberia? Maggie & Brian are part of a wonderful foundation called More Than Me that’s mission is to do everything possible to keep young girls off the streets of Liberia, where women in the slums are at the highest risk of becoming prostitutes and involved in sex-trafficking at as young as 10 years old. This summer, the goal of the Muldoons’ trip to Liberia is to create school art programs and safe-houses for the girls, to keep them flourishing for their futures, rather than ending up on the streets.
I think it’s safe to say that with everyone’s generosity, they cracked their goal last night through cash donated and the raffle tickets/auction, but theres a few days left to donate to their trip online at http://www.indiegogo.com/SafeHouseLiberia
During the event last night, The Nuclears performed an awesome semi-unplugged set that shook the house and included covers of Kiss, Lou Reed, and David Bowie, as well as an unplugged version of The Nuclears’ “You Can Make It” and an amazing thirteen minute cover medley by Brian and Mick Maverick.
Above is a video of The Nuclears performing David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” with Sean Spada on keyboard. -

This is what we’re getting into tomorrow! The Bowery Bangs is a New York City supergroup band, and they will be recreating The Rolling Stones’ iconic Some Girls album LIVE!
We put this together with a few good friend and some amazing companies. David Pattillo from The Dead Exs and I curated the entire line-up, all of The Nuclears (and dozens more wonderful NYC musicians) are involved, and it’s going to be a TON of fun.
In the break between Side 1 and Side 2 of the album, Warren Zanes (former VP of the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame) will be speaking and telling a bit of history about the record.
Opens tomorrow at the RIFF gallery (amazing rock n roll, art, clothing, and much more) at 4pm. If you can’t make it to this wondrous event, it will be streaming live online and there will be an encore performance at Tammany Hall on Monday night.
Link to the live stream will be posted in the morning. See you there!
